Hard Drive & Backup Technology: System Resources

Regarding the smooth and uninterrupted operation of computers, many factors play a role. Processing power, usage, infection status, and operating systems all present unique challenges to a system. Yet one of the lesser-known afflictions of a poorly operating computer can be system resources, specifically memory. A computer doesn't operate strictly on the amount of memory in the chips. Virtual memory, a companion to physical memory, is a piece of the total system memory resource, and emanates from hard disks or flash drives. Reserving space for virtual memory is fundamental to maintaining a fully functional computer.
Another issue is fragmentation. When operating systems store data on a disk, they assign a section (or multiple secti
